We recently had the opportunity to interview our client Lance Williams, owner of Playa Del Rey Florist, on how he got started and some of his favorite floral trends.
Tells us about how Playa Del Rey Florist got started?
Playa Del Rey Florist was established over six decades ago in 1950. Our family took over 22 years ago.

What is your favorite part about being a florist?
Delivering flowers and helping people express themselves through flowers. Flowers always bring a smile or cheer someone up. People celebrate with flowers; weddings, birthdays, new babies, new jobs. They are congratulatory. But they also offer sincere feelings for people who are not feeling well or have lost someone. No matter what the occasion flowers make things better and that is a joy for me to be a part of.
Is there a main area of floral design that Playa Del Rey Florist focuses on?
We are a long standing florist serving both young and old communities. So we offer everything from traditional to modern. We do probably lean towards the modern and enjoy creating with all kinds of novel flowers and plants.

What are some of your favorite tools, props or flowers to work with?
We are big fans of orchids, succulents and roses. We love working with succulents and they make a wonderful contrasting texture to roses. Great partners in design.

What is your favorite Flowerlink rose variety?
It might not be the newest one but I still love Piano.
What’s next for you and Playa Del Rey Florist?
We recently had the amazing opportunity to build a large scale floral installation for the Kanye West: Jesus is King Sunday Service. Tens of thouands of flowers were used to bring the huge circumference of flowers to life and transform The Forum into a beautiful scene of nature. Our team was amazing and there was so much positive everything generated there it was unbelievable.
We are also working on some new design styles and integrating some new vessels to accentuate a specific look we want to achieve. Coming soon!
